Entrevista Semanal a un Intern

Hola! Hace unos dias nos hicieron una entrevista con mi jefe, asique aqui les va!

Meet Intern

“The biggest take away from our collaboration has been learning how to work with a global team, in a country that still brings many serious challenges for the companies to think of.”, say Ravi Gorthi, principal researcher of SETLabs, and Intern Jose Luis Honorato from Chile.

Intern:

  • I am: Jose Honorato, student of Electrical Engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile.
  • Home to me is… Santiago, Chile, where my family is.
  • Languages I speak: Spanish and English (and looking forward to widen this list)
  • I joined InStep because: I was impressed with Infosys’ variety of projects, people, thoughts and branches in all over the world, and with their interest for us coming here. InStep is a solid program backed up by a company that has everything to succeed. Plus the opportunity to experience an amazing country so different from what I’ve known!
  • After InStep I will be… Flooding my friends and relatives’ minds with tales, experiences and thousands of pictures taken here. I will surely need a lot of time to realize the impact, vision and opportunities that this experience will bring to my life, and finally use them as a tool to help other people understand that opportunities are around the corner for everyone. Oh, and in some part I have to work on my M.Sc. thesis on BioMedical Imaging and finish my undergrads.

  • India to me means? A world of new opportunities and experiences, a country where people smile just to thank for a new day. It means a conviction to be better in every aspect of my life. It is (literally) the farthest place I could go from my home, but yet feeling so welcomed.
  • My personal motto: Can I include two? I just can’t decide on one… “It doesn’t matter how long your life is. Just how much you did with it, so live it to the fullest.” And “Success comes to those who are too busy to look for it” (H. Thoreau).

Project Mentor:

  • I am: Ravi Gorthi, Principal Research Scientist, SETLabs; I offer consultancy on BRMS technology; I have been researching into the field of model-based software engineering; my team and I have created a ‘Test Case Generation’ tool which is rated as the 2nd best in the world by IVS experts; I am married to Rani and we have two lovely children; I am an active member of Toastmasters International.
  • What inspires me at work: The working environment, mainly the knowledgeable and cultured people, whom I interact with, share and learn from.
  • InStep to me means: A great source of joy to interact with some of the best minds in the world, offer challenging problems to them and create solutions, file patents and publish papers with them! So far (in the last 5 years), I have mentored more than 35 interns –perhaps the most within Infosys.
  • What I would want my intern to remember most about this experience: About the values practiced by Infoscions at all levels besides achieving business goals.
  • I would recommend mentoring interns to other Infoscions because: This is your opportunity to impress young minds from top class universities across the globe and also learn from them.

Intern and Project Mentor

  • The project we are collaborating on: Research and evaluation of techniques, technologies and guidelines related to next generation mobile advertising, consisting of dynamically composed, context based and actionable advertisement content.
  • Two things we have in common: We like very much travelling, because of the cultural richness that kind of experiences brings. We are also very interested in all types of music.
  • Our role models:
    • Jose: My role models are my parents. They have been an example both personally and professionally. They have shown me the beauty of hard work and commitment.
    • Ravi: Isaac Newton for a wide range of fundamental contributions to the field science.
  • What we love about India and Chile:
    • We love the landscape contrast you can find in both countries. There are few places on earth with such a variety. Jose also likes Indian people way to face life; with joy and simplicity.
  • And Infosys: This company has adopted a culture of innovation and open mindedness in everything they do; from delivering top-end solutions for clients to an ecological awareness in every aspect of the everyday work. If we had more companies like this, our industry environment would be much better.
  • A goal (professional or personal) we want to accomplish this year: Our goal is to give Infosys an innovative idea for it to develop business in an emerging area. In particular, we would like to elaborate a very complete & new business opportunity, so we can come up with a patent, an article for publication and a business plan.
  • The biggest take away from our collaboration: To learn how to work with a global team, in a country that still brings many serious challenges for the companies to think of.
